As if any advertiser in the country needs to hear this any louder, Forrester Research has a
new report on ad spending in the year 2012. Online video ads spending is
expected to grow 72 percent in the next five years, to $7.1 billion.
eMarketer previously pegged video ad spending to hit $4.3
billion in 2011. The Forrester data indicates that the market is expanding
even faster than expected. But the exact data is somewhat irrelevant. Video
entertainment on the web is huge and major media companies are rapidly
overcoming their skittishness about piracy and lost revenues to embrace the
field. As the content comes around, advertisers are dissociating "internet
video" with "user-generated filth" and looking to ante up. It's
really the lack of a standardized ad format that is holding back the growth.
(All of this means it's even more important that you read Contentinople every single day!)
