The LimeWire digital store that we reported on earlier this month has released some new information on its à la carte and subscription service.
I confirmed this morning with CFO Jesse Rubenfeld that the pricing model, as it currently stands, will break down as such: $0.99 per individual download with monthly subscription tiers that start at 25 downloads for $9.99; 50 downloads for $14.99; and 75 downloads for $19.99.
Rubenfeld stressed that the à la carte and subscription prices are "subject to change" along with the rest of the market. Individual downloads could cost as much as the iTunes DRM-free 256-Kbit/s tracks ($1.29). Alternatively, Rubenfeld said, LimeWire could take the Wal-Mart route and offer à la carte prices for DRM-free mp3s at less than $0.99.
The store will operate as a standalone product with links to the existing version of LimeWire. No new labels have been brought in on the deal, but the company is in discussions. The store's initial offering will include music from IRIS Distribution
and Nettwerk Productions' catalogues.
