One of the many topics of discussion at Contentinople Live! last week was online video syndication, and fortunately enough, the video blog Beet.tv was there capturing footage of the conference and syndicating it around the world with its partner Blip.tv .
Among some of the juicy tidbits: Many publishers have found viewership numbers vexing. Who knows how long a video has been viewed or if anyone has even watched it all? According to Blip.tv's CEO and co-founder Mike Hudack, Adobe Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: ADBE)'s video tools for its new player solve these problems and more:
After Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) found itself at the forefront of allegations that it is throttling peer-to-peer (P2P), the company has been on a goodwill mission throughout the P2P world. In the video below, BitTorrent Inc. 's CTO Eric Klinker discusses the new technology his company and Comcast are working on to speed up P2P video delivery:
You can't call a conference Content Delivery Economics without delivering on that promise. In the following video, James Segil, CEO of the CDN EdgeCast Networks Inc. talks up his company's bid to beat market leader Akamai Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM) and other CDNs on pricing. "We're a lot like JetBlue," says Segil, comparing Akamai to United Airlines:
Some of those interviews were great. its definitely going ot be an interesting next 12 months to see what is going on in the CDN world, as well as P2P.
Comcast can burn in my opinion. Their PR department has to be loving their jobs right now trying to extinguish the fires setup by their P2P thottling.
My fave was James Segil and his comment about they are similar to JetBlue in their pricing and competition with Akamai... competition between companies leads to innovations. In our world of technology the underdog can be the new leader tomorrow!
LOL I think that EdgeCast would be more realistic if they called themseves a wheelbarrow in comparison to Akamai being American Airlines.
It amazes me how some of these new startup CDN's look at Akamai as their comp and then they get capitolized at 1/100th the money it would take to come close to denting Akamai's domination in this space.
It's going to be an interesting 2 years. Maybe we should start the CDN Death List here at Contentinople. An associate of mine has been keeping one for going on 8 years now and it's just a boneyard out there.
The math says 65% of these CDN's won't be around in 2 years. It's sad but true.
