In two news releases this week, Korean content delivery network (CDN) CDNetworks Co. Ltd. announced robust business in the online gaming arena, as well as a partnership with site performance analyzer Gomez to help show prospective customers how its services stack up against their current delivery methods.
CDC Games, NHN USA's ijji.com, and OnNet USA will use the CDNetworks's CDN to power a number of massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) played by end users in the U.S.
The news expands an already impressive roster of customers in the online gaming space. In addition to the customers just announced, the CDN says K2 Network, Codemasters, and Nexon use its network for content delivery.
"Pretty much all of the major gaming studios are using us in one way or another," says Robert Gribnau, VP of U.S. and European Sales for CDNetworks. "A lot of game developers are Asia-based. With our roots coming from Korea and our dominance in that market, it was natural for them to come to our network."
But these announcements are significant because they involve game developers using CDNetworks in the U.S. "With our business in Asia and now our presence here, now the same brands can use us in Asia and in the U.S. as well," Gribnau says.
In addition to the online gaming wins, CDNetworks announced a partnership with site performance analyzer Gomez.
According to Gribnau, the deal allows the company to proactively use Gomez's site analyzation tools to show prospective customers how their sites perform using their current method of content delivery versus how they would perform using CDNetworks's services.
Through the partnership, the CDN will set up and pay for the site analyzation tool for prospective customers. And if the customer likes the service, Gribnau says it can tag on the site analyzation tools as an add-on through a reseller agreement it has with Gomez.
