The Metropolitan Opera has introduced a new service that makes archived content available to opera lovers worldwide, and has turned to PermissionTV Inc. , Move Networks Inc. , and POP Arts Marketing for the technology to make it work.
The new Met Player gives users access to 120 audio recordings and 50 full-length opera videos that have been recorded from live performances over the past 75 years. The Met plans to update the content monthly.
Performances are available on a subscription or pay-per-view basis, with monthly subscriptions starting at $14.99 and yearly subscriptions priced at $149.99. Individual performances are available for $3.99 each in standard definition or $4.99 in high def.
PermissionTV led the technical integration and is providing the content management for the Met, including managing all of the metadata and subtitles, as well as building the custom Flash player that Move Networks technology is stitched into.
Move provides the video and audio technology behind the Met Player, ensuring the highest-quality streams are sent to the end user with its adaptive streaming technology. (For a preview of the Met Player in action, click here.)
Interactive agency POP developed the account management and billing system for the Met player, which is integrated with the core Met Website and account system.
