Today MySpace content partners got a lot more reach with the launch of a new application that will make video from Hulu LLC and other partners available on user homepages.
The new application builds on the social networking site's existing partnerships with content distributors through its Primetime video channel. The Primetime channel was launched last December, and since then MySpace has added content from Hulu, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. , Sony, and more than 150 others to the site.
The only problem? The page was difficult to find, so very few users actually took advantage of that content.
MySpace's new Primetime application solves that, by making all the same content that is available on the channel page available where users spend most of their time -- on their homepages, in their profiles, and on other user profiles.
By adding the application, MySpace users will be able to search, subscribe to, and watch any content available in the Primetime library in any of those locations. The end result should be greater visibility for MySpace video content partners, as well as increased monetization for ad-supported content in the Primetime channel. Or at least, that's what everyone hopes.
For now, the application is only available in the U.S., but it could still provide a big boost for content partners. MySpace has more than 76 million users in the U.S., which spend an average of four hours on the site per month.
