Online video distribution firm Kyte has added another feature set to its product portfolio, now enabling customers to stream live, high-definition (HD) video using its platform.
The company's new Kyte Live Pro product, which is being introduced as an add-on to the company's video platform, works with professional-grade video mixing consoles and can support video resolution up to 1080p.
The first customer to use the new product will be TV Guide, which selected Kyte Live Pro to power its red carpet preview of the Emmys on Sunday, September 20. In addition to streaming video on tvguide.com, the company will deploy the Kyte player on Facebook, which will allow TV Guide to bring a social aspect to the video stream.
"One of the nice things about partnering with broadcasters is that they can leverage the unique capabilities of our platform," says Kyte chief operating officer Gannon Hall. That includes being able to integrate with social networks like Facebook and Twitter Inc.
By launching Kyte Live Pro, the company will be going up against similar offerings from startups like Livestream and Ustream. But unlike those firms, Hall says his company offers an end-to-end solution that offers online, mobile, social, on-demand, and now live video features.
"Ustream does live streaming, but that's all that they do; Livestream does live streaming, but that's all that they do. What we're building with Kyte is a one-stop shop," Hall says. "We're a live streaming provider, but really that's just one part of our broader offering."
According to Hall, having more of a turnkey offering and being able to offer multiple features has helped Kyte sign up some big-name media companies. "We're working with Tier 1 media companies like ESPN and MTV, and they're interested in a solution that is going to meet all their needs, so they don't have to bring on other platforms."
