Hulu LLC has indicated once more that it will extend its evil plot to destroy the world overseas, with the hiring of Johannes Larcher as senior vice president of international operations.
According to the Hulu site, Larcher is "responsible for leading Hulu's expansion efforts outside the United States." He will be taking over these duties from content and distribution senior vice president Andy Forsell, who will remain with the company.
Larcher previously served as Overture's international GM, Friendster's international VP, and founder of now-defunct social-betting site Pikum, according to PaidContent.org.
At the moment, international visitors to Hulu are met with this message:
Hulu is committed to making its content available worldwide. To do so,
we must work through a number of legal and business issues, including
obtaining international streaming rights. Know that we are working to
make this happen and will continue to do so. Given the international
background of the Hulu team, we have both a professional and personal
interest in bringing Hulu to a global audience.
But recently, Hulu's been in talks with "all the partners you'd expect" in the U.K.
In other news:
Netflix Inc. has announced it is integrating with Facebook Connect, allowing its members to post movie ratings to their Facebook accounts, which gives a member's friends the opportunity to comment and add the movie to their own Netflix queues. Facebook Connect has performed well for other sites like Citysearch, which saw about 30 people on average click through to its site for each restaurant review shared on
Facebook .
There could be hope for
RedLasso , the video startup that helped bloggers find and embed news clips -- unfortunately without permission from content owners. It was sued by major networks like NBC, Fox, and CBS last year, and its video service has been dormant ever since. But, starting this April, the site will offer
embeddable video content from Fox's 27 regional stations. The deal doesn't include any content from Fox's national networks, however.
