The Fred YouTube Channel -- which stars Fred Figglehorn, the manic six-year-old created by the manic 15-year-old Lucas Cruikshank of Columbus, Neb. -- has become the first YouTube channel to surpass 1 million subscribers. And it did so in less than a year.
In fact, only one of his videos has yet to garner over a million views, and it's this most-recent post in which both Cruikshank and Fred thank their fans for helping them pass the 1 million mark:
One episode, "Fred Goes Swimming," was nominated for a People's Choice award, and Cruikshank has appeared on Nickelodeon's iCarly as Fred.
In other news:
Will Wright, the creator of top-selling games like Sims, SimCity, and Spore, has announced he is leaving Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq: ERTS) to concentrate on Stupid Fun Club, an entertainment think tank he founded in 2001. According to The Wall Street Journal, Wright is hoping to design interactive games for other devices besides game consoles and PCs -- like TVs... and "household appliances."
Still marching around in a huff about the Internet, the Associated Press has now directed its fury at Tennessee country music station WTNQ-FM (an AP affiliate, by the way), accusing it of copyright violation for embedding AP videos on its Website. However, these videos are embedded from AP's own YouTube channel... and, as most YouTube users know, it is possible to disable embedding on your videos... which leads us to wonder: Does AP understand YouTube?
