At least some of the shows and movies on popular video site Hulu LLC could be available only to subscribers in the future, according to Jonathan Miller, the new chief digital officer at News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), which has a 27 percent stake in Hulu.

Miller, who won't attend his first Hulu board meeting until Monday, said Tuesday night, at an event sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter: "I don't see why over time that shouldn't happen. I don't think it's on the agenda for Monday [but] it seems to me that over time that could be a logical thing."

There's no word on whether the same shows would continue to be available free on network sites such as Fox.com or NBC.com.

In other news:

  • Digg -- another popular Web property struggling with monetization -- is introducing a "social advertising platform" that will allow users to vote on which ads they do and do not like -- and charge advertisers accordingly. More popular ads will have cost-per-click rates and will appear on the site for longer, The New York Times reports. "The premise behind this platform is that we are going to do for ads what we did for news," Digg CEO Jay Adelson told NYT.

  • The Jonas Brothers have creeped everyone out by attempting to promote their new album (Lines, Vines and Trying Times, released on June 16, in case you're interested) with a viral video that features Joe Jonas imitating Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance and outfit. So far the Twitter consensus seems to be "What? ...eww." Watch, below, at your own risk.

Viewers may be willing to pay for new movie downloads or rentals on Hulu -- the same fees Amazon or iTunes charges. But I think it would be a mistake for Hulu to charge for archived TV series, or if it decided to only ofter a handful of episodes of each program for free.
