Imax Corp. shares dropped 4 percent yesterday on news that the delay of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will negatively affect the company's revenue.
Because of a scheduling conflict with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter won't appear on Imax screens until two weeks after its July 14 release (save for two theaters in New York and L.A.). This conflict comes as a result of Harry Potter's eight-month delay -- the film was originally scheduled for release in November.
Merriman Curhan Ford analyst Eric Wold said yesterday the delay "should negatively impact Imax boxoffice results," despite the Imax version's 12 minutes of 3-D footage.
"There will obviously be some consumers that choose to wait for the Imax version with its 3-D scenes or will choose to see it for a second time, but we [do] not believe this will be enough to offset the negative impact from the move," Wold said.
Be honest: Who could wait two weeks to see this?
