Releasing albums online has become commonplace, it seems. Old standbys Paul McCartney and Guns 'n' Roses both put out their latest and eagerly anticipated albums on the Internet today.
Well, not quite. Songs on the albums are online and available for streaming, but in the case of Guns 'n' Roses, they were online months ago, and they're also legally streamable at imeem Inc. The album goes on sale for $11.99 at Best Buy on November 23.
And Paul McCartney's album (made with Youth, alias The Firemen) was actually online Tuesday, Wired points out. NPR.org, that musical trailblazer, was first in posting the 13-song album on its Website.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) is implementing the hard-times rent-to-own strategy with its Zune music service, according to Seattle Tech Report. The Zune Pass, which is an unlimited music subscription service to keep for as long as you are a subscriber for $14.99 a month, now includes 10 songs to keep forever. Or you could just listen for free (legally) whenever you want without the hassle of storing (and now backing up) music files. Hmm...
Facebook is being sued for patent infringement. Leader Technologies, an Ohio company whose motto is "The Intellectual Capital Company," claims it has patented a "system for the management and storage of electronic information," according to a press release (!!!) the company sent out yesterday.
