It seems as if every network is moving its content onto the Web and making it available for free, which has been a boon for viewers who want to control how and when they watch their favorite TV shows.
With all that content available, networks like
ABC Inc. and
CBS Corp. (NYSE: CBS) are trying to cash in by investing huge amounts in making their Websites more user-friendly and adding goodies -- like full-screen video, embedding functions, and community features -- designed to create a better experience for end users.
Even so, not all network sites are created equal. Whether it's the site navigation, player features, or even just the content that's available, some networks are clearly better at keeping Web users engaged and watching video on their sites.
With that in mind, we set out to test drive and rank the best network sites out there, judging them on the content available, player functionality, and overall user experience. We came to some interesting conclusions.
While it's probably not surprising that The Discovery Channel lacks some of the high-tech features and compelling content of other sites we looked at, it might shock some that the top spot was taken by a cable network -- and by one that caters to kids!
